No smoking ban came into force on the 1st July 2007
With the smoking ban here we summarise what restaurants need to do to be ready for the new law.
From 1st July 2007
- it will be against the law to smoke in virtually all enclosed public places
- indoor smoking rooms in workplaces and public places will no longer be allowed
- managers will have a legal responsibility to prevent smoking and to ensure no-smoking signs are displayed
- the laws applies to anything that can be smoked including shisha and hookah pipes
- penalties for managers failing to comply with the law include fines up to £2500
- local councils are responsible for enforcing the law and will offer help and advice on how to comply
